“Geometra and SmartKalk are a really great combination”

Lasse Milenkovic is a cost estimator/technician at the engineering firm IngPro AS in Norway. He creates estimates using Geometra and SmartKalk and delivers them to his clients. In this interview, he explains how smoothly working in parallel with Geometra and SmartKalk is.

IngPro is part of Birkeland Bruk, along with several other companies that collaborate with each other. They mainly work within the construction industry and with corporate clients. They specialize in prefabricated wooden structures. For their clients, they develop, among other things, construction documentation, working drawings, energy calculations, and quantity estimates.

"We use Geometra to extract quantities, which we then import into our estimating tool, SmartKalk. There, we match the quantities against estimate lines that include materials, prices, and everything else that will be part of the project".

Before Lasse started using Geometra, he used the classic ruler, paper, and pencil to measure and quantify. The time they spent then compared to now has been significantly reduced. It's a major time saver, considering how many projects Lasse and his colleagues have estimated in Geometra so far—around 3,000.

A new version of Geometra was released before the summer. Lasse and his colleagues quickly started using the new features, and there are many positive things to say about it.

"The latest update in Geometra has made everything much easier. The loading time has decreased significantly, which is great".

The same structure simplifies the workflow

“We work a lot with structure templates and control folders. We have adapted the contents of the control folders to our system, which allows us to work consistently and easily share the content. Thanks to the control folders, we have increased our capacity and can produce more in less time”.

When Lasse describes the quantities to include in Geometra, he uses the same designations as in SmartKalk. This makes it easy for him to find the correct item when he needs to enter the quantities into SmartKalk, which he finds very convenient.

“When we import quantities from Geometra to SmartKalk, it is a manual task between the two programs. However, with the help of the structure templates, it is easy to transfer the information since we have set up the control folders like in SmartKalk. We import the folder structure from Geometra to SmartKalk,' Lasse concludes”.
