“We save a lot of time by using ready-made templates for recurring building components”

Meet Erik Boger! Erik owns the family business Boger Bygg and currently holds an advisory role. He is also responsible for the company’s estimates. With the help of Geometra, he prepares quantity takeoffs for all their projects. There are a total of three people working on estimates. We chatted with Erik to learn how he uses Geometra in his work. Enjoy the read!

Boger Bygg is a general contractor in construction services, building everything from garages, apartment buildings, and schools, to fire stations. Today, they have 15 employees and have been running the company since 1992.

"I don’t just use Geometra for quantity takeoffs; it’s also a great tool for familiarizing myself with projects. The last project I worked on had many sloped walls and ceilings, which don’t appear on a floor plan. I used Geometra to get a clear understanding of the building's structure before starting the calculations.”

Templates save time in the work process

"We often work with recurring building components, such as ceilings, doors, and soundproof walls. These are included in our building component table in the estimation software SmartKalk, which we also use. These recurring components are needed in almost all bids, so it’s very useful to use templates in Geometra, with ready-made descriptions of our building components directly matched to the naming conventions in SmartKalk."

In Erik’s folder structure in Geometra, there are organized folders with ready-made object templates. He has integrated the entire building component table from SmartKalk to match it with the quantities he extracts. Once the quantity takeoff is complete, he imports the quantities from Geometra into SmartKalk to finalize the estimate.

"Since we started working with ready-made templates for recurring building components, we’ve saved a significant amount of time. You also get a good overview of the project, for example, in terms of fire safety requirements. You immediately see if something is missing, and then you can go in and adjust."

Erik finds that the threshold for learning Geometra is low. It’s easy to understand and simple to navigate. He believes that once the structure is set up, you can work faster on each new project.

Erik also appreciates the support from Geometra. He finds it easy to pick up the phone and get direct help with the program when needed.

Ongoing residential project: Kildehagen

"Right now, we’re building Kildehagen, an ongoing residential project we’re managing ourselves. It consists of 14 buildings, including duplexes and four-unit homes. This is a great example of how templates in Geometra can save time during quantity work. All the apartments are identical, making it easy to reuse information."

All units have a sunny outdoor area in the form of a terrace/garden or balcony.
The buildings are delivered with a high standard and are designed by architect Kjelsrud in Fredrikstad. Everything has been carefully considered with practical solutions and plenty of space in each individual room.
The buildings will be located in the extension of an established and cozy neighborhood with a short distance to schools, as well as hiking terrain as its closest neighbor.
